A Guide to the Changes Incorporated into New System Mechanic 16.5 Pro®

With the advent of System Mechanic 16.5 Pro, iolo welcomes System Mechanic Pro into the Quicksilver High-Performance™ family of optimization products. The new software platform makes System Mechanic 16.5 Pro the fastest and most stable version of the security and optimization utility ever launched.

System Mechanic 16.5 Pro focuses on fully leveraging Windows® 7 through 10. A special version of System Mechanic for Windows XP and Vista, System Mechanic Classic, retains all the legacy tools and menus that benefit those older operating systems. If you are running Windows XP or Vista and you attempt to install System Mechanic 16.5 Pro on your machine, you will receive an install error message.

System Requirements

• Windows® 10, 8, 8.1, or 7 x86/64

• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 or later

• Minimum 512 MB RAM (optimal 2 GB)

• 35 MB of available hard disk space

• Internet connection (required for license activation)

• Windows “Administrator” User Account

Easier Product Activation

System Mechanic Pro will typically launch immediately after installing and run a first-time analysis. Click the Analyze now button or the OK button on the dialog box to proceed.

Note: During installation, you may be prompted to separately accept the installation of System Shield®. Accept the installation of this component in order to complete the installation of System Mechanic 16.5 Pro.

Once the analysis is complete, click the blue button to license your product with your Activation Key and email address:

Licensed users, license information is shown on the CD case/sleeve or in the email message you received.

• In the Email field, enter the email address that you used to purchase System Mechanic Pro.

• In the Activation Key field, completely type all letters and numbers, exactly as shown. (The hyphens will be automatically entered.) Both of these fields are required for activation.

"Symantec has released their annual Internet Security Threat Report and it is a mixed bag regarding the treats that exist online. The overall number of web attacks went down by more than 30%, which is obviously a great thing. Specific types of attacks, however, are on the rise. Unfortunately, the types of attacks that are on the rise are the ones that are the most costly to businesses and consumers.

Ransomware attacks, for example, shot up by 36%. These are the attacks where the victim’s files are encrypted and then lost forever if they don’t pay a set amount in ransom. This is a particularly costly and effective type of attack because, at least so far, the attackers generally decrypt the files once the ransom is paid.

The total number of data breaches also went down over the past year, which is very important given the risk that these types of breaches put on the consumers."
